A day with the guv'ment
A title like that would usually be followed by a rant, but not today.
Today i had a decent time. Started off with me calling Boonz to get ready for a day of pain lining up in the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara to get our ICs updated...after about a year of procrastinating, of course :P
We arrived at about nine-ish at the BIG building at Anson Road...queried the guard and got the thumbs up that this be the place where we do our ICs...Being late, the first pleasant surprise was the parking...one word...'ample'...
Went upstairs, to 3rd floor, Registration counter...next pleasantry: a helpful person behind the desk. We took our forms and numbers...
I drew 1169, Boonz on 1173...current number : 1048
...not too bad...
We did a count and the numbers were going by about one a minute, not too bad at all!
...Estimated an hour and a half wait, so to Dim Sum next door for breakfast!...which wasnt all that good, so ill leave that topic there.
Back inside at 9.45
Lepakked on the floor in the corner and chatted...our turns came around quickly enough...the folks inside were quite polite about telling me what i could and couldnt wear...
Stuffed myself into a coat they provided for the pic to be taken...they were even patient enough till i found one close to my size(which wasnt very close at all actually...NOTE: lose some tonnage Jobe!!)
Heres where i get my next pleasentry...the lady behind the Registration counter in the morning sees me inside:
"Encik, ada tinggal kunci kan pagi tadi?"
"Huh?...eh...i did!...i mean... - ada!!"
Holy cow! i didnt even notice i misplaced my car-keys!!...mom always said if my nuts werent attached, id lose them too...will punish myself for that later, for now i thank the lady profusely...
With literally hundreds of people there, all she could have done was throw it into lost n found or something, but she held onto them and got them to me...she even went to retrieve it for me while my pic was being taken...
After another short wait, thumbprinting was done (Biometric scanners!...fuh...canggih also...) and we were off...not much hassles at all...
I wish i could remember that lady's name, cos she really did make my day. The fact that she would even take 1 step further to help me out really changed my view of the workers in the guv'ment offices...
I really feel there has been a change done to make it a little less painful...with the politeness, smiles and even special assistance received today, guv'ment service status with me is now "got some hope!"...which is a huge upgrade from "completely and utterly fucking useless!!"
...well...at least its a step in the right direction! ;)
Im praying i didnt just catch them on one of their good days tho, and hopefully things look up even more in the future...
